MIRACLES BIRTHED AT PEARL VILLAGE
Rushed to the hospital, Specioza was admitted into Project Orphan’s - Miracle Birthing Center at 40 weeks pregnant. It was that time! This baby was on its way and as the PO Medical Team prepared for the delivery, Specioza remained quiet and undeniably nervous. Regrettably, Specioza had experienced the loss of an unborn child due to former delivery complications. For this reason, Specioza qualified for a cesarean section.
The anesthesiologist administered a spinal block while the PO medical team prepped the operating room. Then Dr. Ernest and Claire, Project Orphan’s Midwife, got to work. It didn’t take long for the energy in the room to shift from anticipation to extreme concern.
When the baby was delivered, he had a super tight nuchal cord. He was limp, blue, and not breathing. Not breathing! Everyone in the operating room began praying while resuscitation was started on the baby. Finally, after what felt like eternity… he whimpered. And then he whimpered a little more. His color started to improve. And finally, he cried! In fact, he screamed, screamed, and screamed.
Tears ran down the mother’s face. It really was a miracle! Without Miracle Birthing Centre, this mother who lives in a neighboring rural village could have quite possibly had another birth that ended tragically. According to UNICEF, every day 15 women die in Uganda from childbirth-related causes, 94 babies are stillborn, and 81 newborn babies die.
It was just two years ago when our Co-Founder snuck into a government hospital in rural Uganda and saw several mothers in labor on the floor because they could not afford a hospital bed. New mothers and their newborn babies were suffering and struggling to live. That’s when our organization took action and built Miracle’s Birthing Centre.
MBC is equipped with delivery beds, incubators, baby warmers, oxygenators, and other quality medical equipment that allows women in our village to access a midwife and also feel respected and empowered while thriving through the birth process. Each and every month, the Project Orphans Medical Center (POMC) team performs life-saving procedures and offers outpatient healthcare services to nearly 500 patients.
Your support, commitment, and compassion have saved Specioza’s life and her baby boy who was named Samuel. The name Samuel means, “God heard.” He heard the prayers to save this baby boy and He heard the cries of mothers needing a place to safely deliver their newborn babies.
